forever a battle between the word ‘cover’ and ‘original’. such a torrid and bemusing battle. i put covers online for people to a) see me for the first time and for my name to seep into their brans, and b) for them to perhaps like me enough to look at my original music. i don’t WANT to spend my life doing cover videos, i want to make a living from my own music. always a tiny little bit disheartening when all people say to you is ‘cover this song! or this one!’ - and that’s what you get when you put yourself online like that. i know that. but i wonder if the youtube brand will ever slide. once you’re a ‘youtube musician’, are you forever stuck with that and people don’t think you’ll ever be able to make it beyond that?
